When it comes to internet security, having the right tools is crucial for protecting your online activities from potential threats. In this review, we take a closer look at Webroot SecureAnywhere Internet Security, one of the six Mac antivirus programs recently evaluated by our team.

Unfortunately, Webroot fell short in terms of detecting malware compared to its competitors. While it did offer some impressive features and performance metrics, its inability to detect as much malware as other programs left us underwhelmed.

One of the notable issues we encountered was with installing the Web Filter extension for Google Chrome. After copying the file to our desktop and dragging it into Chrome's Extensions window, we successfully installed the extension. However, this experience was not without its challenges, as we also experienced difficulties with the installation process.

When seeking technical support from Webroot, we were initially met with a pushy customer-service representative who tried to rush us off the line. Thankfully, our second call was more productive, with a helpful representative who elevated our problem to the next level and remotely accessed our MacBook Pro.

Despite these challenges, Webroot's online support did not provide instructions tailored specifically for Mac users, which further complicated our experience. Moreover, we discovered that Chrome's frequent automatic updates can sometimes 'break' the extension, rendering it ineffective.

In terms of browser extensions, installing those for Apple Safari and Mozilla Firefox went smoothly. However, our experience with Google Chrome was marred by issues with the installation process.

On a more positive note, Webroot's advertised Web Shield service is unable to monitor activity in Chrome without the Web Filter extension installed. This highlights the importance of ensuring that all components are properly configured for maximum protection.

One area where Webroot SecureAnywhere Internet Security excelled was in its scanning capabilities. Although the installation process took longer than expected, with a mandatory initial scan taking over 25 minutes on our MacBook Pro, subsequent scans were relatively quick.

In comparison to other antivirus programs, Webroot's performance was lackluster. During an OpenOffice test, our MacBook Pro turned in the slowest time while SecureAnywhere was running in the background. However, during a full-system scan, Webroot achieved impressive results, finishing in just 4:03 and demonstrating its ability to effectively detect malware.

In conclusion, while Webroot SecureAnywhere Internet Security offers some impressive features, its inability to detect as much malware as other programs and challenging installation process make it fall short of our expectations. As always, we recommend carefully evaluating your internet security needs before making a decision on which antivirus program to use.
